There may be a solution to that also...register with http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ If your number is on their list companies are not legally allowed to spam you by telephone. Hope you get it sorted. Sounds like a nightmare.

Report them to their ISP. Once you have the IP address you should be able to see who their provider is. Use www.dnsstuff.com (use the Free Tools).

I think it's definitely worth pursuing any avenue which gets the empty shops working for something, whether it be advertising (which would be my second choice) or preferably occupied, even if that be on short term rents. (Charities for example usu...

Hi Glenda. I am happy your cats enjoyed their stay with us. I would appreciate if you could advertise the fact that we now have Boarding Kennels and recently opened our Dog Grooming Parlour. All our customers so far have been delighted with our services. Good Luck in your Business.

Hi Glenda

Good to see you have decided on the where and what to advertise in.

As stressed in other posts the next step is to monitor the return from each option.

Perhaps not as easy with the printed option unless using a separate tel no for ads it should be easier to measure the benefit of BT Exchanges by monitoring click throughs from listing.

Having said that your listing doesn't have a web link to site and a good number appear not to either. After searching on the web the first option I would expect when finding a listing would be a link to web site for an initial browse before contacting by phone or to order online.

Also, as you appear not to have a Google Analytics account, set one up as it's free and gives a considerable amount of statistics on visitors including where they have come from eg organic search (which search engines), directory listings and other sites and sources.

Essential information to help measure the effectiveness of online advertising and marketing activity. It also has features to integrate with Adwords to monitor its effectiveness as well, including options for split-testing and multi-variate testing of landing page conversion.

Rob

Thanks for all the input. We have decided on one course of action for now which gives us 2 printed ads in the telephone book and an enhanced ad on their new website BT Exchanges (sorted by proximity to searcher). Best rates of all we spoke to.

Rob, I think you're right and that perhaps we should concentrate more on getting our own site up the rankings and maybe consider adwords.

We have one more ad coming up in the Journal (which may be better placed as a profile) and will consider Falkirk Now although my concern with this is I've never seen a copy and it's coverage doesn't seem to reach Bo'ness and Grangemouth.

Hi Glenda
Another point worth noting - ALWAYS negotiate prices on whatever advertising you decide to go for and try to get editorial as a way of assessing whether a particular publication is worth spending money with.
Great to see another Bo'ness bsuiness involved.
If you would like a face to face chat about what we have done, pop into the shop anytime and speak to myself or Kevin.

Hi Glenda

Being an internet search optimisation company I focus more on achieving organic search results rather than paid directory listings although there is no harm in doing it if it can be afforded. It won't hurt!

You might also, consider Google Adwords as they can drive extra, quick targeted traffic and can be tested for effectiveness and tailored accordingly to maximise both the CTR (click-through-rate) and conversion ratio.

Doing a search for pet shops falkirk , in Google, you already appear in local results at the top of the page.

Yell.com appears in position eight with other directories in the positions above (might be better considering them!).

Given that position it might not be all that difficult to achieve a top ten listing, for a range of targeted keywords, with your existing web site and focused content on individual products or product ranges.

Regardless of which route you take, as outlined in one of the forum posts, the most important element is to measure & test each method for effectiveness and it's roi.

Rob

Hi Glenda,
Alan is right. You will find Karen to be very helpful. Rates in "Falkirk Now" are reasonable and advert sizes can be made to suit even a small budget. As with all promotional stuff, always test in a small way and then expand based upon your experience. We tried Yell, Thomsons etc. without success in spite of their hype.

Another low cost and very effective channel is through Ebay if you have products that lend themselves to National exposure. We regularly use it and will be happy to talk to you about it and lend help if you wish to have a go. Here is a link to some of our feedback that is also doing a super job in building our credibility.

Hi Glenda,
Nice to see another Bo'ness Business on the site. Hope it proves worthwhile for you and that you will be able to spread the word about the facility. "Free lunches" are rare these days however this site goes along way to prove that you can still get something for nothing.

Best of Falkirk

Recently we've been trying to decide whether to take the plunge and pay for some advertising.

We were approached by yell.com and they've given us some pretty convincing statistics to try to get us to sign up to promote our business info / website and they are doing a fair bit of TV advertising right now- but the cost is hefty for a small business.

I was also pointed towards The Best of Falkirk (Falkirk business… Continue
